How to Keep Your Shipments Duty-Free Under US$100

Jamaica Customs waives duty on shipments valued under US$100 — here's how to actually use that threshold to your advantage.

The threshold, in one sentence

Any single shipment with a total declared/invoice value of less than US$100 generally clears Jamaica Customs duty-free under the "De Minimis" allowance. At US$100 or more, duty and GCT may apply. That's the entire rule — the tricky part is managing your shopping around it.

1. Split large hauls into separate orders

If you're placing one big order worth $250, consider splitting it into two or three smaller orders instead. Since MGR processes and ships every package individually — we don't consolidate multiple orders into one shipment — each separate order gets its own chance to clear under the threshold.

2. Space orders out over time

Buying everything you want in a single shopping spree tends to push individual package values up. Spacing purchases out over a few weeks, rather than one binge session, naturally keeps each shipment's value lower.

3. Know that the threshold is per shipment, not per month

The US$100 De Minimis allowance applies to each individual shipment's declared value — not a running total across everything you've shipped this month. That's exactly why splitting matters: two $80 packages can both be duty-free, while one $160 package likely won't be.
